Anna developed Strong Sexy Mammas (home workouts) after having her first child and realizing there is a real need for safe and effective (yet challenging) online exercise classes for prenatal and postnatal women (Postnatal could mean freshly postpartum or years down the line with multiple kids). Prenatal and postnatal women have unique needs and they are not properly being met by the fitness industry. Strong Sexy Mammas is working to bridge the gap with both exercise classes and education. Anna is a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, pre and post natal diastasis and core consultant, prenatal and postnatal corrective exercise specialist, women's fitness specialist, and international TV host. Anna worked in New York City for 5 years where she hosted the number one weekend cable morning show in the world. Anna moved to Sydney with her Australian husband to start a family. They have a two year old boy and a baby girl!

What is Strong Sexy Mammas?

Strong Sexy Mammas is an online fitness membership and educational resource created by American TV host and fitness instructor, Anna Kooiman. Strong Sexy Mammas is full of motivating, women’s only workouts. The membership is all about using group exercise to help mammas like you get your groove back, both physically and emotionally. Participants can pick and choose from a range workout formats and lengths. Sessions last as little as 4 minutes and as long as 30 minutes. Workouts include strength, cardio, stretching, and pelvic floor exercises! Warm-up and cool-down options can be added to the beginning and end of sessions.

How is Strong Sexy Mammas Different?

We are hoping the fitness industry follows our lead! We have very unique needs as prenatal and postnatal women. We have been neglected. Many programs seem to have a 'go big or go home' mentality... which can cause more harm than good. OR! They have a white glove, delicate mentality, treating pregnant and postnatal women as if they have a disease and shouldn't be doing much at all.

ACOG recommends 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week. If we don't move it... we lose it!

Mammas... We go through the biggest physical change in the shortest period of time when we are in the prenatal and postnatal periods. Our center of gravity changes, our hormones are going wild, our joints are becoming lax, our pelvic floor is becoming weaker. Many women experience back or pelvic pain, we are exhausted, and often emotionally fragile.

Strong Sexy Mammas aims to empower women through fitness classes yes, but also education!

Anna uses her TV journalism background to also deliver bonus video content, interviewing all sorts of women's health experts like doctors, doulas, women's health physical therapists (physiotherapists), birth coaches, etc.

One differing point in this program is an emphasis placed on pelvic floor, transverse abdominis, diaphragmatic breathing, and posture perfecting exercises. Another exciting difference? Make sure you have doctor clearance.

We are all different - and feel different on different days. Workouts are as little as 4 minutes and as long as 30 minutes. Stack multiple videos if you have more time.

What certifications does Anna Kooiman have for fitness?

Anna Kooiman is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Fitness Instructor, NASM Women's Fitness Specialist, Fit for Birth Prenatal and Postnatal Corrective Exercise Specialist, Diastasis and Core Consultant, Moms into Fitness Prenatal and Postnatal Fitness Specialist. Anna has numerous other continuing education courses under her belt.

Why are pelvic floor, TVA, and breathing exercises included?

Do you want to be able to laugh, cough, sneeze, run, jump, and jog without worrying about leakage? An emphasis is placed on pelvic floor exercises which are especially important for long term health.

Pregnancy and childbirth have lasting implications on our pelvic floor. Doctors recommend we 'check-in' with our pelvic floor and do exercises for it every single day (but so many of us forget)! A well functioning pelvic floor can also lead to more satisfying sex with your partner. Woooo!

What if my kids are older?

Whether you are trying to conceive, 2 months pregnant, 2 months postpartum, 2 years postpartum, or 20 years postpartum these workouts can be an amazing fit for you. That's the beauty of Strong Sexy Mammas... We offer progressions and regressions of exercises to help meet you where you are today. Our focus on pelvic floor, deep core stabilization, and posture are good for everyone. Even elite athletes! Anna’s signature class is Kooiman Kardio.  It’s a mix of dancing, kickboxing, and athletic drills. Kooiman Kardio will scorch tons of calories and you won’t even realize you’re working out. 


Are these workouts individualized?

No. These workouts are not individualized or prescriptive in nature. We require consulting with your doctor before starting any exercise program. The same goes for including your baby in exercise. Make sure you talk to your medical carer. We also recommend you see a women's health physical therapist to have your pelvic floor, tummy muscles, and overall musculoskeletal structure checked. 

How did you get the name?

The Strong Sexy Mammas name is about feeling comfortable in our new 'mom bods' and regaining confidence in this new identity we take on as mothers. Anna wants to be the fit girlfriend by your side, helping you get your groove back.

Anna came up with the name because both during pregnancy and now as a mom, there are definitely times when we do not feel sexy! From morning sickness, to breastfeeding, to sleepless nights... Motherhood can be exhausting. Anna helps you get energized.

Why did Anna decide to launch Strong Sexy Mammas?

As mothers, we all know it can be tough to even make it to the gym. And even harder to find qualified trainers who know how to safely train this special population of women. Anna realized how much her fitness needs had changed after becoming a mom. She was a marathon runner, triathlete, and fitness instructor, but knew she needed to slow down while pregnant and rehab following birth. Anna studied for loads of pregnancy and post-pregnancy certifications and loves sharing what she's learned.

Does Anna teach LIVE fitness classes?

Anna currently teaches classes at highly sought after boutique fitness studios (The Well and The Upbeat) in Bondi Beach (Australia’s fitness mecca and most iconic beach). Anna is a college athlete, marathon runner, and triathlete. She also continues to do a significant amount of TV freelancing both in the USA and Australia. But the thing she is most proud of, is being a mom!
